Last hours in Mykonos and Athens

Ike was fascinated to see the ancient bath houses the romans used (2,000 yrs ago) including the nice marble tiles. Steven was fascinated by the ancient plumbing.

The baths were located next to Temple of Zeus. Only 16 of the 104 columns remain. Made a interesting visit to the flea markets in Athens.Check out the cool stuff ....

On Mykonas Ike made friends with a pelican having a drink from a tap ...

We saw the changing of the guards at the Greek Houses of Parliament. Steven is still trying to copy the way they walk and marched!

We had a couple of drinks at a 100 year old establishment. Check out all the coloured bottles of cordial ........, and the bar tender pouring our ozo from the keg.

Bye for now, tomorrow off on the overnight train to Istanbul. xxxx

Mykonos

Mykonos .... Just as you imagine the Greek Islands (white washed buildings etc.). Free formed concrete and stone built to withstand earthquakes. The township is full of winding narrow alley ways (apparently to confuse the pirates many years ago).

Caught the local bus to the beach of Super Paradise. Order a drink and lunch, then we were charged 12 euro to use the sun lounges and umbrella! Ike was waiting to catch a wave, he didn't believe us that there would not be any here. He made friends with a local alley cat and he wanted to spoil me with some jewellery .... but Steven was too much of a miser to let him buy me any.

We are going out to dinner now, tomorrow back to Athens for 2 nights. Then the train to Istanbul.

Bye xxxxxxx

Last shots of Santorini

Last few shots from the beautiful island of Santorini. Steven having breakfast on our hotel balcony.... you can see the new volcano that we visited. Local fisherman opposite the bus stop. We are now on our way to Mykonos .... I know, it is tough.

Love Steve and Chriss xxxx

Volcano boat trip

Long hike up to the craters of the volcano. Ike seemed a little worried about the deep craters and the steam coming up combined with the sulphur smell. Steve dived off the boat for a swim in the hot springs. Ike was surprised to see the sails of the boat being set. We sailed past another settlement on Santorini (Oia) with the red cliffs. It was dark when we arrived back, Ike was tired so we took a cable ride back up to the top.

More Santorini

We walked down the cliff face for over 30mns to get ready for our sailing boat trip to thee volcano and hot springs. Ike had loads of fun riding the donkeys and horses.

We didn't think that it was fair to let the donkeys carry us! Poor donkeys ...... up and down all day and night long.

Santorini

Wow Santorini!!!! here we are, after 8 hours on the ferry. Check out the view from our hotel room. Ike enjoyed the sunset over the Agean looking out towards the new volcano. Santorini islands were created when the central volcano collapsed into the magma chamber after the last major eruption some 10 of thousands of years ago. Hence the rumor of the Lost City of Atlantis. The vertical cliff faces (of which we are staying the edge of) are the remains of the once mighty volcano. You can see the start of the new volcano in the middle, between the islands (we are going to visit this tomorrow).
